Attack on Syria Would Be Prelude to Invasion of Egypt
An Egyptian political figure warned against the goals and consequences of a possible military attack on Syria.
Hamdin Sabahi, leader of the People’s Party said any attack on Syria would be a prelude to invading Egypt, Al-Dastour daily reported.
He urged Arab nations and governments to take a united stance against the West’s likely raid on Syria and said they must not allow such a thing to happen.
He underlined that an attack on Syria by the West will only result in destruction and will never bring about freedom.
“Therefore, all Arab countries and nations must adopt a united stand against it and this is an immediate necessity.”
The People’s Party has also issued a statement expressing its resolute opposition to an invasion of Syria. It said such an attack would have negative effects on the national security of Arabs, especially Egypt.
The group added that an invasion of Syria will only benefit the Zionist regime and is aimed at weakening Arab countries and their militaries.
The People’s Party said the occupation of Iraq by the US and its allies cannot be considered separate from today’s attempts by the war-mongering forces against Syria.
It called on the Egyptian government and other Arab countries to oppose the plot against Syria and expressed its absolute support for Syria against conspiracies.
The US has threatened to attack Syria accusing the country of using chemical weapons, a charge Damascus vehemently rejects.
