Syria’s representative in the 5th International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students said the Iranians’ efforts in the field of Quranic activities are amazing.

Speaking to IQNA, Muhammad Bassim Muhammad Ali Sanduq, who will compete for Syria in the recitation category of the contest, added that he attended Iran’s international Holy Quran exhibition last year and got to know the extent of Iran’s Quranic programs and activities.
Asked about Quranic activities in his country, Sanduq said Quranic programs and activities in Syria, like everything else, have been influenced by the country’s crisis.
He said a government Quranic institute calls al-Assad Quranic Center, which is affiliated to Syria’s Awqaf Ministry, has branches in all mosques and holds Quranic courses.
According to Sanduq, the center’s activities stopped for a few months due to the crisis in the country but it has once again resumed its work.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Muhammad Ali Sanduq hailed the Quran competition for Muslim students as a venue for promotion of ties among university students of the Muslim world.
The fifth edition of the International Holy Quran Competition for Muslims Students is scheduled to be held in January 2015 in Tehran by the Iranian Academics' Quranic Activities Organization.
The Iranian cities of Isfahan, Tehran, Mashhad and Tabriz hosted the previous four editions of the international competition, which is aimed at enhancing Islamic unity, paving the way for promotion of Quranic teachings and culture and providing a venue for interactions among Muslim world students.
Muhammad Ali Sanduq further referred to his own Quranic activities, saying that he started learning Quran recitation after graduation in engineering and was mostly influenced by Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil al-Hasri.
He currently teaches in a Quranic center in Damascus while at the same time studying theology at Sayyida Ruqqyya Islamic Sciences Center.
