Bahraini People’s Uprising to Continue Despite Regime Crackdown
Issuing a statement on Sunday, the senior cleric said the Al Khalifa regime seeks to stop the popular revolution through violence and intimidation but the growing violence has just boosted the uprising, al-Ahd website reported.
Ayatollah Qassem also condemned the arrest of Sheikh Ali Salman, secretary general of Bahrain’s Al-Wefaq Islamic Society.
“The detention of the leaders of the uprising will not weaken the people’s resolve,” Ayatollah Qassem stressed, adding that people of Bahrain will continue their uprising with peace and moderation.
He went on to say that the uprising in Bahrain will not stop until people’s basic demand, namely true reform, is met.
Bahraini regime forces detained Sheikh Salman on December 28, 2014, after long hours of investigations.
Since then there have been numerous demonstrations across the tiny Persian Gulf country protesting against the arrest.
Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held rallies in the streets of Bahrain, initially calling for political reforms but gradually shifting to calls on the Al Khalifa dynasty to cede power following the harsh crackdown on peaceful protesters.
Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in the Manama regime’s ongoing crackdown on anti-government rallies.
