In a message to the people of Japan, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb said these terrorist groups have been formed to split up countries and safeguard the interests of the Zionists.
In this message, which was broadcast on Japan’s national television, the Egyptian figure said groups like the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have no relation to Islam, which is a religion of peace, kindness and friendship.
Al-Tayyeb expressed sympathy with the people of Japan over the recent killing of two Japanese citizens by ISIL and underlined the need for a united global stance against terrorism.
The ISIL controls parts of Syria and Iraq, and has been committing horrendous crimes in the areas under its control, targeting people of all communities and faiths.
In January, the terrorist group released videos showing the beheading of two Japanese hostages.
