1800 Hafiz (memorizers of the Quran) competed in different categories of the national event, which concluded on Wednesday, June 3.
It was organized by Tunisia’s national Quran Memorization Society in cooperation with the country’s religious affairs ministry and the World Quran Memorization Association, hqmi.org website reported.
The participants competed in six categories: memorization of the entire Quran and memorization of 20, 15, 10, 8, and 5 Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book.
The contest took place in two separate sections for men and women, the report said.
Winners were awarded at the closing ceremony attended by Tunisia’s grand Mufti - Sheikh Hamda Saeed and a number of other religious and Quranic officials as well as representative of the World Quran Memorization Association.
Tunisia is a Muslim-majority country in North Africa. Islam is the official state religion in Tunisia and approximately 98 percent of the population is Muslim.
