The contest was launched in a ceremony attended by Education Minister Ali Asghar Fani, Shiraz Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Asadollah Imani, and secretary of the Council for Development of Quranic Culture Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Mohammadi.
In their addresses to the opening ceremony, the officials underlined the need for promotion of the Quranic teachings in society, especially among the younger generation and students.
2300 school students from all provinces of the country will compete in different categories of the Quranic event for 8 days.
They have made it to the competition after winning the top titles in the preliminary rounds.
They will also attend programs on the sidelines of the competition, including Quran recitation sessions and visit to the city’s religious and historical sites.
