The free public educational event is being keynoted by Dr. Idris Elbakri, president of the Manitoba Islamic Association.
“Lately with the global political climate the way it has been in regards to organizations like ISIL and Al Qaeda there is a lot of fear, uncertainty and doubt in our culture these days when it comes to Islam and the people who practice it,” said event organizer Peter Cantelon.
There will also be an open question and answer period. With more than 15,000 Muslims living in the province of Manitoba, Cantelon says having the seminar was needed to assist in tearing down some negative stereotypes that permeate public and private discourse.
“I think understanding leads to tolerance and that’s what this seminar is about — bringing understanding.”
The presentation will take place on Saturday, November 21 at the Access Event Centre in Morden on the lower level in the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre.
