TEHRAN (IQNA) – Managing Director of Iranian Youth Cinema Society Farid Farkhondekish described the movie “Muhammad (PBUH), the Messenger of God” as a turning point in the Iranian cinema.

Speaking to IQNA, he added that Majdi Majidi’s movie is a brilliant work which can affect not only the Iranian film industry but also foreign cinema.

Technically speaking, the movie proved that Iranian cinema can produce works that can match the latest top films in the world, he stressed.

Farkhondekish further referred to the insults against the character of the Holy Prophet of Islam including the publication of blasphemous cartoons, saying that Majidi’s film tries to confront this trend.

The epic production is the first part of a trilogy on the life of Islam’s Holy Prophet (PBUH), which recounts the early years of his prophethood in the city of Makkah.

It took five years for Majidi and his team to produce the 171-minute movie. With a budget of over $55 million, the religious blockbuster is the most expensive film ever made in Iran.

Produced by Mohammad Mehdi Heidarian, the film was shot in Iran and the South African city of Bela-Bela.

The cinematic project has enjoyed the cooperation of renowned international craftsmen and artists such as Italian cinematographer, Vittorio Storaro, Italian film editor, Roberto Perpignani, American special effects artist, Scott E. Anderson, Italian makeup artist, Gianetto De Rossi, and Indian composer, A. R. Rahman.
