Two prominent Malaysian Quran reciters and a professor of Quranic studies at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) were among those who attended the memorial service, which was organized by the cultural center.
The two Qaris were Tirmizi Haji Ali, who bagged the top prize in last year’s Malaysia International Quran Competition, and Wan Ainuddin Hilmi, who came second in this year’s edition of the event.
They, as well as Iranian Qari Saleh Rafiei, recited verses from the Holy Quran at the ceremony.
A crush of pilgrims in Mina, near the holy city of Makkah, on September 24, killed over 4700 people, including at least 465 Iranians.
Among them were five members of Iran’s 20-strong Quranic delegation to Hajj.
Hassan Danesh, Amin Bavi, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, Foad Mash’ali and Saeed Saeedizadeh died in the tragic crush while performing the Hajj rituals.
Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar had won the first prize in the 57th edition of Malaysia International Quran Competition back in June.
