TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s parliament speaker said the terrorist atrocities the world is witnessing today have their roots in the wicked actions of certain Arab and Western countries.

Addressing the first session of the parliament in the new Iranian calendar year (started on March 20) on Saturday, Ali Larijani added that those countries created and developed terrorist groups in the past years to exploit them for their own purposes but are now facing the threat posed by the groups.

He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran had already recognized the threat years ago and warned others about it.

Iran has fought against these terrorist groups in the past and is still helping the governments of Iraq and Syria in their fight against them, he noted.

Larijani also congratulated the government and people of Syria on their recent victories against terrorist groups and liberation of major parts of the country from Takfiri groups.

Syria and Iraq have been the target of terrorist activities in the past few years.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists, including Daesh (ISIL), currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

Daesh terrorists also made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014.

Meanwhile, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the popular forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, has blunted the edge of the Daesh offensive.
