TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in Tehran on Sunday to honor renowned Iranian Qari and Quran memorizer Master Shahriar Parhizkar.

A large number of Quran activists were present at the event, hosted by Fars news agency.

It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Ahmad Abolqassemi followed by a speech by Fars managing director Seyed Nezameddin Mousavi.

He praised Master Parhizkar for his Quranic achievements, saying that they have proven that Iranians, who have been be flag bearers of Quranic sciences, still have a brilliant record in the field.

Another speaker was Quran Master Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Reza Shahidipour who underlined the impact of the Tarteel recitation of the Quran by Master Parhizkar in promoting Quran memorization in the country.

He noted that the Tarteel series recited by Master Parhizkar is influential because of his attention to the meaning of the verses as well as Waqf and Ibtida principles.

Parhizkar himself in an address stressed that the ceremony is meant to promote the Quran and not to honor him who has "nothing if it had not been for the Quran”.

A number of officials including Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry’s Quran and Etrat Deputy Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Reza Heshmati and Director of Quran Radio Mohammad Hossein Mohammadzadeh were also present at the event.

At the end of the ceremony, a stamp issued in honor of Master Parhizkar was unveiled.

Born in 1964, Shahriar Parhizkar is a memorizer of the entire Quran and a leading figure in Tarteel recitation of the Quran.

He has also won top titles in various national and international Quran competitions, including the first rank in memorization category of Saudi Arabia’s international Quran contest in 1992.
