
According to alkafeel.net website, a team from the capital named Baghdad al-Rasafa wpn the top prize after beating a team from Muthanna governorate in the final round.
A team from Nineveh governorate came third in the competition.
In this contest, which is held annually, each team comprises a Quran reciter, a memorizer and a researcher in Tafseer (interpretation of the Quran).
The holy city of Karabal hosted this year’s competition, which was attended by 24 teams from 12 governorates of the Arab country.
At the closing ceremony, members of the top team were awarded gold medals, an Umrah Hajj package, and a blessed flag of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine.
Quranic activities have significantly grown in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.
