The demonstration comes on the heels of racist and anti-Muslim fliers found in front of the center Wednesday.
The rally was seen as a message of unity and religious tolerance.
Sunbury police say the fliers were taken down shortly after they were discovered, but the fliers themselves are a cause for concern. The fliers promoted white nationalism on the mosque as well as on telephone poles, trees and cars around the city. Among the messages were "White people had enough? So have we".
Recently in many Central and Northeast Pennsylvania communities, white supremacist materials have been distributed in many neighborhoods, mostly by members of the Ku Klux Klan.
Sister Safiyyah Levine, the Sunday school principal of the Sunbury Islamic Center, told the Daily Item newspaper "We're not afraid of you. Our town is loved, and we're not about hatred. All of these little towns - Lewisburg, and Sunbury and Selinsgrove - none of us are afraid of you."
Police are still looking for information about who may have been responsible for distributing the fliers.
