Speaking to IQNA, Rafi Amiri, director of the National Quranic Sciences Center, affiliated to Iraq’s Shia Waqf Department, said the competition had been planned to be held during the Islamic Unity Week earlier this month.
However, as the conditions were not prepared and there were some administrative problems, the contest was postponed, he said.
Amiri added that a new date for organizing the Quranic event will be announced soon.
The Astans (custodianships) of the holy shrines in Iraq are the main sponsors of the contest and some religious institute also cooperate in holding it, he noted.
Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.
There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
