Ayatollah Sistani’s Office Slams US Attacks on Iraqi PMU Forces

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The office of Iraq’s top Shia cleric grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali al-Sistani in a statement strongly condemned Sunday’s US airstrikes on bases of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).

The statement described the move as a “brazen aggression” and underlined the need for respecting Iraq’s sovereignty, Alsumaria TV reported.  

It also called on the Baghdad government to take necessary measures to prevent such attacks from happening again.

On Sunday, US forces conducted drone strikes on a number of Kata'ib Hezbollah bases in Iraq’s western Anbar province, killing at least 25 individuals and leaving another 51 injured.

Kata’ib Hezbollah is part of the PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi.
