TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) once again reiterated their support for a recent move by the parliament to expel foreign forces, including US troops, from the country.

In a meeting on Monday, the commanders of the PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, also underlined continuation of operations to counter the remnants of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIL) terrorist group in the country, almaalomah.com website.

The participants also discussed mechanisms to strengthen coordination between the PMU and other Iraqi armed forces and security organizations.

Earlier this month, Iraqi lawmakers unanimously approved a bill, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country following the assassination of Iran’s top military commander, Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, and the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

The legislators used an extraordinary parliamentary session to vote on a resolution requiring the government to press Washington and its allies to withdraw their troops from Iraq.

General Soleimani, al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

Mahdi Taqi, a member of the Iraqi parliament’s security and defense commission said on Monday that the results of an investigation into the assassinations will be given to the parliament next week.
