TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held at the Islamic Cultural Center Jakarta to commemorate Iranian commander Lt. General Soleimani and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who were assassinated by the US last month.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s representative in Indonesia Hojat-ol-Islam Majid Hakim Elahi and guests from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan attended the program on Sunday.

Addressing the event, Hojat-ol-Islam Hakim Elahi highlighted the characteristics of Martyr Soleimani and said he was an influential personality in the regional developments.

He said General Soleimani was the major enemy of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group and hegemonic powers.

Zuhairi Misrawi, an official with Indonesia’s Nahdlatul Ulama, also delivered a speech at the program, hailing General Soleimani as a role model for all freedom-seeking people in the Muslim world.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.
