Head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Affairs Center Mehdi Qarasheikhlu said some 31,000 people took part in the town and provincial stages of the contest in different categories.
He was speaking at a ceremony held in the northeastern city of Gorgan to mark the conclusion of the provincial stage.
He noted that the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization has held the Quranic event for more than forty years and this year it is the 44th edition of the contest.
According to Qarasheikhlu, those scoring the minimum points in the provincial stage will make it to the semifinals, slated for the month of Aban (October-November).
He said the national stage will be held in Dey (December-January) and those winning the competition will represent the country in international Quran contests.
The official went on to say that the National Quran Competition helps to identify the country’s Quranic talents.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s national Quran competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.
It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in the society.
The categories of the contest include memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Holy Quran.
