TEHRAN (IQNA) – The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) denounced a recent deadly attack by Daesh terrorists on a village in Iraq’s Diyala governorate.

In a statement a copy of which was received by IQNA, the IUMS said the savage crime, in which 20 people were martyred and many others injured and a mosque and other buildings were set on fire, is strongly condemned.

It added that such criminal acts run counter to all international laws as well as human Fitra (nature) and the tenets of all divine religions.

The statement also cited verse 32 of Surah Al-Ma’idah of the Holy Quran “…the killing of a person for reasons other than legal retaliation or for stopping corruption in the land is as great a sin as murdering all of mankind,” to stress the awfulness of the crime.

The IUMS called on the Iraqi people to stand united against terrorism and stay away from sectarian conflicts and discord in the country.

Last week, Daesh terrorists attacked the Nahr al-Imam Village in eastern Diyala governorate, killing at least 20 civilians and injuring more than a dozen others, Iraqi security officials said.
