TEHRAN (IQNA) – A group of Quran reciters and memorizers from Mauritania visited the holy mausoleum of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala, Iraq.

The Mauritanian delegation, also including prayer leaders of mosques from the African country, were welcomed by officials of the holy shrine’s Astan (custodianship), Qafqn.org website reported.

They also paid a visit to the radio channel of the Astan and attended a live program hosted by Iraqi Quran master Ali al-Khafaji.

They then held a meeting with the radio channel’s director Abdul Latif al-Hassanawi.

During the visit, the Mauritanian delegation discussed cooperation in Quranic fields and organizing joint programs with the Astan.  

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.

Quranic activities and programs are very popular in the African country.
