Egypt Preparing to Stage 28th Int’l Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Awqaf Ministry held preparatory meeting on Wednesday to review measures required for holding the 28th edition of International Quran Contest.

 

Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, Awqaf Minister, attended the meeting, according to Alwafd.

The competition is set to be held between December 11 and 15 in Cairo in different categories.

Attendants in the preparatory meeting discussed different aspects of the upcoming event.

In a statement, the ministry announced that 74 participants and 12 referees from different countries will participate in the competition.

Gomaa had earlier said that 1 million Egyptian Pounds has been dedicated to awarding the winners of the Quranic contest.

Memorization of the entire Quran with Tajweed and Quranic concepts with Tarteel recitation of the Quran for Arabic speakers is the first category of the contest.

Male and female participants in the first category should be under 35 years of age.

The second category, planned for those under 30, includes memorization of the entire Quran with Tajweed for non-Arabic speakers.

Quran memorization for the disabled is the third category, which is held for Egyptian nationals under 30.

Memorization of the entire Quran with Tajweed for Egyptian teenagers under 12 years of age is the fourth category.

Memorization of Quran along with interpretation for imams of mosques and Quran memorization for women preachers are also two new categories that have been added to the competition this year.

Winners of each of these categories will receive a cash prize of 50,000 Egyptian pounds.
