TEHRAN (IQNA) – The mufti of Jerusalem al-Quds and Palestine strongly condemned a US congressman’s remarks about dismantling al-Aqsa Mosque from the holy compound in Al-Quds.

Sheikh Muhammad Hussein condemned the racist statements of US Republican Congressman Paul Gosar who had called on the United Nations to “dismantle” the al-Aqsa mosque and move it to another place.

The comments are similar to those made by extremist Rabbi Yaakov Hemin who had urged for destroying the Dome of the Rock, he said, noting that these remarks are “dangerous and racist” and contradict the internationally recognized state of Jerusalem al-Quds and al-Aqsa mosque.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is for Muslims alone and no one else is entitled to interfere, the mufti stressed. “Any decision to touch the al-Aqsa Mosque is an insult to all Muslims around the world.”

He called on the international community to implement resolutions about Palestine and reject the racist attitudes of the occupying regime.

The cleric also urged Islamic and Arab countries to do utmost effort in protecting al-Aqsa Mosque and prevent Judaization of the area.

In a statement published on his website, Gosar reacted to a recent resolution in support of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. “It remains an abomination that a mosque was allowed to be built over this temple. The United Nations should be finding ways to dismantle and move that mosque, which is an affront to all religions,” he said in part of the statement.

On December 3, 2021, the United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution 129-11 that disavowed Jewish ties to the Temple Mount and referred to it solely by its Muslim name of al-Haram as-Sharif.
