The governor of Port Said said a meeting was held recently to coordinate necessary preparations for the Quranic event, Gate Ahram reported.
A number of national and local officials, including the head of Awqaf Department and an Al-Azhar official attended the meeting, said Adel Mohamed Ibrahim Yousef Al Ghadhban, the governor.
He underlined the importance of the Quran competition, which is attended by representatives from various countries and said it reflects Egypt’s cultural and civilizational development.
Al Ghadhban added that the contest is organized with the aim of elevating the younger generation’s Quranic, religious and cultural skills.
The 5th edition of Port Said international Quran competition is slated to be held in February 2020.
On Thursday, Egypt’s Awqaf Ministry concluded the 28th edition of the country’s international Quran competition in the capital Cairo.
Seventy-four Quran memorizers from different countries took part in this year’s event, which was named after the late qari Mohammad Sidiq Minshawi.
