TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iraqi cleric says the country will continue to back the Palestinian nation and cause.

Head of National Hikma (wisdom) Movement Ammar al-Hakim made the remarks today in a ceremony held to commemorate Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Hakim.

Rejecting any policy that seeks to normalize ties with the Zionist regime under any excuse, Al-Hakim added that “Palestine will remain a genuine Arab and Islamic cause and Iraq will continue to defend the rights of the Palestinian nation.”

The remarks come as a number of Arab countries of the region have started normalizing ties with the Zionist regime.

The process started under the Trump administration and in agreements known as Abraham Peace Accords.

Palestinian groups and people have condemned the move as a stab in their back, noting that they will continue to resist the atrocities of the Israeli regime.

The UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco are countries that have officially taken steps in normalization.
