TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Quranic Affairs Center of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization described the participation of Sunni citizens in the national Quran competition as a manifestation of Islamic unity in the country.

Hamid Majidimehr told IQNA that Sunni Muslims took part in the provincial round of Iran’s 45th National Quran Competition, especially in such provinces as Kurdistan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, West Azarbaijan, Bushehr, South Khorasan and Golestan.

He also noted that Sunni citizens of the country took part in large numbers in the category of Quran interpretation based on Sunni Tafsir sources.

Also, a number of Quran experts from among the Sunni brothers were invited to serve as members of the panels of judges in the competition, the official noted.

These are all displays of unity and proximity of Islamic schools of thought based on the Holy Quran, he added.

According to the official, a total of 1,853 Sunnis from 27 provinces attended the provincial stage of this edition of the contest.

Majidimehr also noted that religious figures from other faiths like Christianity and Zoroastrianism have attended ceremonies marking the beginning or conclusion of Quran contests in the country.

Enhancing unity and accord is among the main functions of the Quran competitions in the Islamic Republic of Iran and this huge spiritual asset should be safeguarded, he went on to say.

The names of those making it to the national round of Iran’s 45th national Quran competition were announced on Thursday.

The final round is slated to be held in the southwestern province of Khuzestan in the month of Dey (December 2022-January 2023).

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s National Quran Competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.

It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in society.
