TEHRAN (IQNA) – Palestinian resistance groups have strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran by a number of Zionist settlers at Ibrahimi Mosque on Monday.

This photo by Palestine’s official Wafa news agency shows the burnt copy of the Holy Qur’an by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank city of al-Khalil on October 10, 2022.

In a statement, Islamic Jihad official Khader Adnan said that the burning of the Quran by extremist was an act of aggression against “our true religion and the eternal message of our Prophet (PBUH).”

He said this was “a dangerous escalation in the context of the aggression against the sanctities, and the storming of al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Israeli settles desecrated the Muslim Holy Book, the Quran, burning copies, tearing them and then trashing them near the Ibrahimi Mosque, according to a local official.

Adnan called for boosting resistance in all its forms in the areas of clashes with the occupying forces and its settlers in response to the crime of burning the Muslim holy book and targeting of holy sites.

The official also called on Muslim scholars to take a responsible stance in the face of the blasphemous act.

The incident happened Monday, a week after fanatic Jewish settlers had desecrated the Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern West Bank city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) with singing and dancing,

Nidal Jaabari, director of the Hebron Waqf department, told WAFA on Monday that settlers tore and burnt copies of the Quran and then threw them in the trash near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the old town of Hebron.

In a separate press release on the same day, Hamas spokesman Abdul-Latif Qanu said the desecration of the Muslim holy book was an “unprecedented escalation” and a “disrespectful racist behavior”.

He noted that the crime shows the Zionist regime seeks a “religious war on Islam”.

The occupied city of Al-Khalil is under full Zionist regime military rule and several hardcore settlement enclaves are located there.

The Israeli regime Israel usually closes the Ibrahimi Mosque, also known as the Cave of the Patriarchs, to Muslims during Jewish holidays and allows only Jews to be present in it.
