TEHRAN (IQNA) – Late qari Shahat Muhammad Anwar (1950-2008) was one of the most prominent qaris of Egypt.

Shahat Muhammad Anwar

He was known as Akbar ul-Qurra (best qari) of the new generation of Quran reciters.

Born in 1950 in Kafr el-Wazir village in Egypt’s Dakahlia Governorate, Anwar started learning the Quran at a young age.

He learned the entire Quran by heart at 8 and when he was ten, his uncle took him to Kafr el-Maqam village to learn Tajweed recitation with Master Seyed Ahmed Fararahi.

Anwar’s beautiful voice and skillful recitation soon took him to prominence in Quranic circles in Egypt.

He died in 2008 at the age of 58 after a long period of illness.

The following audio file that has been recently released in the cyberspace features his recitation of verses 10-12 of Surah Ad-Dukhan (44) of the Holy Quran:

“Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers.”
