Quran Competition Held in Gambia’s Capital

The Gambia branch of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Uelma (scholars) organized the contest, hespress.com reported.

Fifty Quran reciters from different parts of Gambia took part in the Quranic event, including ten women.

The top winners qualified for the 4th African competition on memorization, Tajweed and Tarteel recitation of the Holy Quran, which will be held in the holy month of Ramadan.

The winners included Saad Muhammad Othman Jalu, Muhammad Ma’mun Ayub, and Abdul Bari Ahmed Dabwi.

Sheriff Abba Sanyang, Gambia’s minister for religious and NGO affairs, in a speech during the Quranic event hailed the foundation and the government of Morocco for their efforts to promote Quranic activities.

Based in Morocco, the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, according to its founders, is an Islamic religious institution seeking to prevent radicalization and fight sectarianism within Islam.

The foundation’s goal is to unite and coordinate the efforts of Muslim theologians from Morocco and other African countries to consolidate Islamic values of tolerance and critical exploration of religious texts.

It also aims to facilitate intellectual, scientific and cultural action by bringing together Muslim theologians from around the world to encourage the establishment of religious, scientific and cultural centers and working towards the revitalization of a common African, Islamic cultural heritage.
