TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 250 Quran memorizers are taking part in the men section of the 30th edition of Jordan’s international Quran competition.

250 Memorizers Competing in Jordan Int’l Quran Contest

The Quranic event kicked off on Tuesday, the 20th day of the holy month of Ramadan, in the Arab country’s capital of Amman.

The contest is being held in different categories of memorization of the Holy Quran, along with observation of the rules of Tajweed.

It will wrap up in a ceremony on Monday where winners will be announced and awarded.

At the inauguration ceremony, Jordanian Minister of Awqaf Islamic Mohammad Ahmad Muslim Al Khalayleh noted that the competition in the women section was held in March and this one, being held in the holy month of Ramadna, is the section for men.

He stressed that Jordan attaches importance to Quranic activities, teaching the Quran and serving the Holy Book.

Khalayleh also noted that those contenders who score above 90 out of 100 points in the competition will receive certificates of Quran memorization from the ministry.

Ali Reza Sameri from Iran’s Khuzestan province is representing the Islamic Republic in the Quran competition.

He is competing in the category of memorization of the entire Holy Quran.

Jordan is a Muslim-majority country in the Middle East. Followers of Islam make up around 95 percent of the country's population.
