KUALA LUMPUR (IQNA) – The last group of qaris taking part in Malaysia's 63rd international Quran competition performed their recitation on Wednesday.

Malaysia Int’l Quran Contest

The performances on the last day of the competition were not particularly impressive, leaving Iran’s representative Alireza Bijani the favorite to win the top award in the recitation category.

Bijani had delivered an impressive performance on Tuesday night.

He recited some verses from Surah Al-A'raf, captivating the crowd at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre with his melodious voice and flawless recitation.

However, such good performances do not always guarantee a qari’s top rank in Malaysia’s prestigious Quranic event.

Bijani said later that he had no stress during his performance and that he felt the blessings of God, the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and the prayers and good wishes of the Iranian people it helped him to put up the good performance.

On Wednesday night, it was turn for representatives of Indonesia, Afghanistan, Singapore, Tanzania, and Pakistan to showcase their Quran recitation talents.

According to some experts in the field of recitation, the participating qaris from Iran, Malaysia and Pakistan have higher chances of bagging the top prize in the international event.

A total of 76 representatives from 52 countries have been competing in two categories of Quran recitation and memorization in separate sections for men and women.

Twenty-four men and 12 women competed in the recitation category in the evenings, and 27 men and 13 women in the memorization category held in the mornings.

All the events were broadcast live from the social media accounts of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

The contest, known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly, will wrap up on Thursday.
