The first edition of the international Quran competition in Kazakhstan began on Wednesday morning in capital Astana.
Iran’s representative Mohammad Rasoul Takbiri’s turn to answer the questions raised by the panel of judges came on Thursday morning and he answered all of the five questions without any problems.
He was asked to recite from memory verses from Surahs An-Nisa, Al-Anfal, Saad, Yusuf, and Fat’h.
The competition, which will conclude in a closing ceremony on Thursday evening, features memorization of the Holy Quran.
The Religious Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan has organized the event to celebrate the Republic Day, a national holiday.
A total of 30 memorizers from different countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the US, Egypt, Turkey, Russia, Kuwait, and Guinea, are competing in the contest, according to Kazakh media reports.

The venue for the competition is the Astana Grand Mosque, the largest mosque in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
A number of eminent Quran experts, including Hafiz Othman Shahin from Turkey, Mahir Farmawi from Egypt, Jahangir Nematov from Uzbekistan, Abdullah al-Hashimi from the United Arab Emirates and Yarsin Amir from Kazakhstan make the panel of judges.
