Hate Crime Charges Filed against 76-Year-Old Man in New York Islamophobia Case

IQNA – Bringing hate crime charges against a man suspected of tagging his building with threatening anti-Muslim graffiti has been hailed by an US Muslim advocacy group.

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) on Friday welcomed the move.

A 76-year-old man has been charged with one count of criminal mischief in the third degree as a hate crime; one count of criminal mischief in the third degree; and eight counts of making graffiti.

He is accused of scrawling anti-Muslim threats targeting his condo board on 8 walls of 4 floors in his building.

The man reportedly has a history of antagonizing other residents.
