Oldest Quran Memorizer in Egypt’s Kafr El-Shaikh Dies at 90

IQNA – A man known as the oldest memorizer of the Quran in Egypt’s Kafr El-Shaikh Governorate died in his hometown at the age of 90.

Sheikh Shawqi Abdul Ati Nasr died of a chronic illness, Al-Yawm daily reported.

He spent eight decades of his life in serving the Holy Book and training several generations of Quran reciter and memorizers.

Shawqi was born in 1933 in Khatir Village in the Billa County of Kafr El-Shaikh.

He memorized the entire Holy Quran at the age of ten and then joined Al-Azhar Islamic Center as a memorizer.

Many Quran memorizers and reciters from Kafr El-Shaikh and other parts of Egypt would come to him to improve their Quranic skills.

According to his son Issam, Shawqi recited the Ayat al-Kursi shortly before his death.

Many Quran reciters and memorizers, including prominent qari Sheikh Abul Ainain Shuaisha, have been raised in the Billa County of Kafr El-Shaikh.
