Expert Taps into Opportunities, Cautions of Embracing AI in Family Dynamics

Addressing the Sixth Digital Literacy Conference, held at Soore University on Monday, Dr. Samira Khatibzadeh, a faculty member at the university, emphasized the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on family relationships.

In her presentation, titled "AI and Its Effects on Family Relationships," she highlighted both the benefits and potential challenges of integrating AI into family life.

"AI has become an undeniable necessity for the families of the future," said Khatibzadeh, noting that AI's ability to personalize and optimize interactions can significantly enhance family dynamics by supporting individual needs and improving overall efficiency in daily tasks.

Khatibzadeh explained that AI can act as a facilitator in various aspects of life, including education, work, and family relationships. "AI can create highly personalized content based on our abilities, interests, and opinions, leading to significant improvements in productivity within seconds," she stated. According to her, AI's influence will soon extend to every facet of family life, reshaping both emotional bonds and structural relationships.

Looking ahead, Khatibzadeh predicted a future where AI plays a central role in family interactions. She urged a pragmatic approach to AI, emphasizing the need for awareness and caution.

"We can adopt different perspectives on AI: optimistic, pessimistic, critical, or pragmatic. I choose a pragmatic view," she said.

"Understanding how to leverage AI's potential in areas like family relationships is a vital mission for us," added the researcher.

She pointed out that AI could significantly aid in parenting by creating customized educational and interactive multimedia content for children, tailored to their unique interests and learning styles. "AI's ability to analyze children's behavior can provide valuable insights into their strengths and areas for improvement," she added.

However, Khatibzadeh also warned about the possible downsides of AI, such as its impact on direct family interactions. "AI might reduce the quality of interpersonal communication among family members and lead to inaccurate decision-making," she cautioned.

She stressed the importance of enhancing digital literacy to counter these effects and ensure AI's influence remains positive.

"While using AI in our lives is inevitable, we must recognize that every technology carries the values and beliefs of its creators," she stressed.

"We should adopt AI with an awareness of our cultural and religious values. A mindful and strategic approach can help us maximize the benefits while minimizing the risks associated with this powerful technology."
