IQNA – The Holy Quran emphasizes that martyrdom is an exalted status and enumerates many virtues for martyrs.

Martyrdom has a sublime status in Islam

One of these virtues is that martyrs enjoy divine blessings and are very happy about it.

God says in Verse 170 of Surah Al Imran: “They are pleased with the favor from their Lord and have received the glad news that those who follow them will have no fear nor will they be grieved.”

Based on this verse, martyrs are truly alive because they are influential in this world and can help their brothers in faith.

They give their brothers in faith the good news that they should have no fear or worries. It is because martyrs see the status and rewards of their brothers.

There are also prophetic Hadiths that underline the significance and status of martyrdom. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “For every virtue there is a better one except for martyrdom because when a person is killed on the path of God, there is no virtue better than that.”

The Prophet (PBUH) also said that three groups of people will intercede on the Day of Resurrection: The Prophets, then the scholars, then the martyrs.

Imam Ali (AS), as a companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), says about martyrdom: “By He in whose hand my soul is, one thousand strikes with the sword are indeed easier [for me] than dying on the bed.”

Those who are martyred on the path of God, not only attain paradise but also God rewards their efforts and deeds in the world:

“The deeds of those who are killed for the cause of God will never be without virtuous results. God will lead them to everlasting happiness and improve their condition. He will admit them into the Paradise which He has made known to them.” (Verses 4-6 of Surah Muhammad)
