IQNA – A female Iranian Quran reciter says understanding and practicing Quranic teachings is the key to avoid sins.

"Beautiful recitation may influence others, but it only affects the qari when they understand the verses; simply reciting the Quran beautifully does not keep us away from sins; we must act upon its teachings," Marzieh Mirzaeipour told IQNA on the sidelines of Iran's 47th National Quran Competition in Tabriz.

Mirzaeipour, who participated in the recitation category of the competition, is a reciter at Imam Reza (AS) shrine in Mashhad. She also holds Quran learning sessions for pilgrims there.

Addressing the societal expectations faced by female Quran reciters, she noted, "We are under a microscope, and some people around us may take us as role models. Therefore, we must be mindful of our behavior in society. Since we recite the Quran, we should not be bad examples for others. We must be more well-behaved than others, and avoid lying and gossip."

She stressed the importance of implementing Quranic teachings in society to attract the younger generation to the Quran.

"The verses must be put into practice within the community so that our youth are drawn to the Quran and its learning by observing the actions of officials. That is when we will have enthusiastic Quranic classes," said.

Highlighting the crucial role of parents in shaping their children's attitudes towards religious matters, she shared her personal experience. "I never forced my two sons, aged 23 and 15, to become Quran reciters or memorizers. Instead, through my behavior, they developed an interest in reciting the Quran themselves. Attention to the Quran starts at home, and then society influences children's perspectives and reactions to Quranic topics."

"If parents steadfastly practice what God has commanded, children will be encouraged and remain safe in society," she stressed.

Mirzaeipour also addressed the balance between motherhood, professional work, and professional Quran recitation. "There is no contradiction or interference between being a mother, working, and professionally reciting the Quran. None of these activities hinder the others. Learning to recite the Quran may take a few months initially to grasp the principles, but practicing at home for ten minutes a day is sufficient. Teaching also helps us, and we manage household chores, spousal duties, and child-rearing alongside."
