IQNA – The crimes of the Israeli regime during the 15-month-long onslaught on Gaza have destroyed the efforts to give “manufactured” legitimacy to the occupation, an expert says.

After failing to achieve its goals in Gaza, the Israeli regime accepted a ceasefire that began on Sunday morning, brining at least a temporary halt to the relentless air and ground attacks which killed more than 46,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023.

“During this period, the Zionist regime killed its captives in Gaza, lost a significant number of its forces, and on the other hand, Israel's international reputation was severely damaged,” Hossein Ajorloo, an Iranian expert on West Asia affairs, told IQNA.

“Before the war in Gaza, Israel had always attempted to legitimize its image in the international arena. However, after the Gaza war, this manufactured and irrational legitimacy along with the warmongering nature of the Zionists became evident,” he said.

This comes as the Israeli regime is facing genocide charges in the World Court.

“The Zionists invested all their power and resources in a prolonged war against Hamas,” said Ajorloo.

It seems that this ceasefire correctly proved the words of the former leader of Hezbollah, Martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who said that Israel could only free its prisoners through a ceasefire, not through force and war, and that they are incapable of eliminating Hamas and the resistance, added the expert.

“Therefore, in this regard, the ceasefire is a major victory for Hamas, although it was a costly victory due to the martyrdom of many innocent people and the assassination of resistance leaders,” he said.

A number of senior resistance commanders, including Nasrallah, Ismail Haniyeh, and Yahya Sinwar were among the prominent figures assassinated by the Israeli regime during the war.

However, the expert notes that the ceasefire indicates that the occupation regime has not achieved any of its goals.

“The ceasefire agreement showed that the Zionist regime failed to achieve its three main goals in the Gaza war: the destruction of Hamas's combat capabilities, the release of Israeli prisoners, and political control over the Gaza Strip.”
