IQNA – Iran’s Parliament Speaker has strongly condemned a plot announced by US President Donald Trump to displace Palestinians from Gaza.

“The recent baseless remarks by the U.S. president about America taking control of Gaza and the forced displacement of the Palestinian people reflect a continuation of colonial and hegemonic views. They represent a clear disregard for and violation of the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people,” Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf told the Asian Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Baku on Wednesday.

Earlier in the month, Trump said Washington would take over control of the Gaza Strip— possibly with the help of American troops— to create a "Riviera of the Middle East." He earlier suggested that displaced Palestinians could be resettled elsewhere, referring to different countries including Jordan and Egypt in several other interviews.

“This plan amounts to a form of ethnic cleansing, modern occupation, and apartheid, designed to serve the illegitimate interests of the Zionist regime by weakening Palestinian national identity and suppressing their will,” Qalibaf highlighted.

Furthermore, this inhumane scheme could destabilize the already fragile security of the region, leading to new challenges and crises, he added.

“We strongly oppose and unequivocally condemn any imposed plan that disregards the will of the Palestinian people,” he said, adding that Iran believes that the future of Palestine and Gaza must be determined solely within the framework of Palestinian interests and through the right of all indigenous Palestinians to vote and decide their own destiny.

He called on all freedom-seeking nations, independent governments, and international organizations to actively support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in both words and actions against this new conspiracy.

“Neither the United States nor any other colonial power will determine Palestine’s future; that right belongs exclusively to the Palestinian people,” said the senior lawmaker.

“The only path to ending the current crisis in West Asia is to establish a full and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the complete withdrawal of the occupying Israeli military from Palestinian, Lebanese, and Syrian territories, provide unrestricted and immediate humanitarian aid throughout Gaza, and guarantee the safe and unrestricted return of displaced Palestinians to their homes,” he added.

The US president's proposal caught huge flak from the international community, rights groups and activists as well as Washington's allies.

The US rushed billions of dollars in military aid to the Israeli regime throughout the Gaza war that was launched in October 2023.

Over 76,000 tons of military equipment, the vast majority of them from the US, were delivered to Israel in the course of the Gaza genocide, according to the latest figures released by the Israeli ministry of military affairs.

The US-backed war claimed the lives of at least 48,271 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 111,693 others.
