IQNA – Türkiye has urged the United Nations to appoint a special envoy to combat Islamophobia, emphasizing the growing need to counter hate speech and discrimination against Muslims.

Speaking at a high-level session of the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay highlighted the increasing hostility faced by Muslim communities worldwide.

“Hatred against Islam, racism, xenophobia, discrimination, and far-right hate speech are rising. Hardly a day goes by without hostility against and violations of fundamental rights of Muslims, including attacks on their lives, mosques, and the Holy Quran,” Bozay stated, Daily Sabah reported.

He acknowledged recent U.N. resolutions that classify the burning of holy books as acts of religious hatred but stressed that additional measures are required.
