IQNA – To cultivate good habits, a year-long plan is essential, and the best time to start is at the end of Ramadan.

How to Maintain Spiritual Uplift of Ramadan After the Month Ends? (Part 2)

Developing a consistent good habit requires a year of dedication. This means practicing a particular positive action consistently for one year, even if it is a small act. The most suitable time for initiating such a plan is from this Ramadan until the next. Imam Sadiq (AS) said, "Whoever wishes to perform a good deed should persist in it for a year without abandoning it."

But what actions can we take over the course of a year to transform the spiritual state we attained in Ramadan into a lasting habit?

When we speak of a "spiritual state," we refer to a condition that exists only in the present moment — it has no past or future. Our goal, however, is not merely to experience fleeting moments of spiritual joy but to achieve a stable state of spiritual well-being. The difference between a spiritual moment and a spiritual station is that the former is temporary, like a momentary flash of light, while a station is a permanent dwelling.

Rather than being satisfied with a shooting star that briefly illuminates the sky of our hearts, we should strive to fill it with the steady light of stars and the sun.

How Can We Reach a Lasting Spiritual Station?

The answer lies in building habits. After Ramadan, if we wish to make the most of this opportunity, we must immediately begin forming these habits. Post-Ramadan is the most favorable time for this, as we may never again possess the same level of spiritual strength, purity, and closeness to God.

We should take advantage of this opportunity to cultivate habits of righteous behavior, truthful speech, resisting desires, avoiding sin, and committing to worship. Although these practices are primarily behavioral, through them we can train our hearts and elevate ourselves to a lasting spiritual station.
