IQNA – A general goal of the International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students is to boost unity among students, academics and scholars of the Muslim world, an official said.

Jalil Bayt Mash’ali, the head of the Iranian Academics’ Quranic Organization, speaking in a meeting of the policy-making council of the 7th International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students, held in Tehran on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Jalil Bayt Mash’ali, the head of the Iranian Academics’ Quranic Organization, made the remark in a meeting of the policy-making council of the 7th edition of the contest, held in Tehran on Sunday.

The Iranian Academics’ Quranic Organization, affiliated to the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), has organized the competition since 2006 with the aim of promoting unity and cooperation among Muslim world students and elevating the level of Quranic activities.

This year’s event comes following six successful editions of the competition, which hosted participants from over 85 countries and had a significant impact on Quranic and cultural engagement across the Islamic world.

The 6th edition took place in the holy city of Mashhad, northeast of Iran, in April 2018.

In his remarks at the Sunday meeting, Bayt Mash’ali said that a brief look at the previous six edition of the contest shows that the general goal, which is to strengthen the unity among students, academics and university professors in the Islamic world is hopefully achievable.

He noted that the first edition of this competition was held in Isfahan in 2006, and the following editions were organized in Tehran, Mashhad, Tabriz, Tehran and Mashhad, respectively.

The Quranic event was then postponed for several years due to reasons such as the coronavirus pandemic, he stated.

The official added that Quran memorization and recitation have been the main categories of the competition, and a research category has been added to the competition in the upcoming edition.
