Despite the widespread bombing and destruction in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian girl Reem Abu Awdah managed to memorize the entire Quran in a hospital bed while suffering from severe injuries.
Reem told Al Jazeera that her Quran memorization journey has been both beautiful and difficult.
She completed memorizing the Book of God to dedicate it to the soul of her martyred mother, even though she was exhausted by her severe injury.
“I was supposed to finish memorizing the Quran on the anniversary of the day my mother was martyred, August 24 last year, but I was injured on August 22, so I finished the memorization later. Thank God, I have now completed memorizing the Quran."
As for how she was injured, Reem said that she fled to areas that the occupiers had declared safe, but the tent next to them was bombed and she suffered blast injuries and shrapnel pierced her stomach. Her treatment took almost a month.
Her sister, Safa Abu Awdah, recounted that Reem finished memorizing the Quran while she was in the hospital bed.
She says, “Reem recited the Quran while she was in the hospital bed, and the doctors were amazed by her resilience and strength.”
