IQNA – A 57-year-old man was arrested at a mosque in Peterborough after behaving abusively and disorderly, police said.

Police were called at about 6:45 a.m. on Friday to the Masjid Darassalaam on Alma Road in Peterborough following reports that a man had entered the building and become disorderly.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed that the individual was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated offence under the Public Order Act, Cambridge Shire Live reported on Saturday.

No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing, the force added.

The police described the incident as “isolated” and stated there will be an increased presence near local mosques in the coming days to provide reassurance.

The Peterborough City Council said it is aware of the incident and is working with the police and community leaders to support the Muslim and wider faith communities.

The council noted that while the incident appears not to be linked to any organised activity, it may be causing concern locally.
