As Muslims around the world prepare to commemorate Fatimiyya, attention once again turns to Lady Fatima (SA), the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and wife of Imam Ali (AS), revered as a model of purity, intellect, and compassion.

Iranian scholar and author Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Javad Abolghasemi’s book, “Fatima, Mother of Goodness”, approaches her life from a spiritual and educational perspective rather than a purely sectarian one.

The author, who has served in cultural and religious roles abroad, including as Iran’s cultural attaché in Turkmenistan, says his experience among diverse communities inspired him to present a universal portrayal of Lady Fatima (SA).

“When I worked in Turkmenistan, I saw how women held important social and cultural positions,” he told IQNA. “It became clear that the story of Lady Fatima (SA) could inspire all women, regardless of faith or nationality.”

He explained that the book seeks to depict Lady Fatima (SA) as a figure who transcends sectarian boundaries. “I wanted to write something that even a reader unfamiliar with religious traditions could relate to,” he said. “Her message is about humanity, compassion, and wisdom — values that belong to everyone.”

Abolghasemi emphasized that the book avoids political or polemical tones. Instead, it presents Lady Fatima (SA) as an ideal of moral refinement and spiritual growth. “If the nurturing and compassionate spirit of Fatima had remained at the heart of Muslim societies,” he noted, “violence would not have taken root in the Islamic world.”

The author believes Lady Fatima’s example offers lessons for modern societies struggling with division and extremism. He describes Fatimi Islam as a faith built on reason, love, and human development, presenting a “curative and revitalizing” alternative to the harshness of contemporary life.

“Islam in the view of Lady Fatima is a religion of peace, knowledge, and human progress,” he said. “It is based on understanding, justice, and inner tranquility.”

Abolghasemi also sees Lady Fatima’s life as a bridge between Islamic schools of thought. He said the book was written to promote unity rather than difference: “From beginning to end, I avoided anything that might offend followers of any Islamic sect. The love for Fatima (SA) runs deep in the hearts of all Muslims.”

He described Lady Fatima as the “true mother of the Islamic community,” whose presence infused the early Muslim society with moral balance. “When that maternal spirit faded,” he said, “a moral and emotional vacuum emerged, and with it came the first signs of division and violence.”

In discussing her marriage to Imam Ali (AS), Abolghasemi writes that their union represents “the meeting of two divine sources — the essence of Prophethood through Fatima and the light of Wilayah through Ali.” From this sacred bond, he says, “the truth of Imamate was born — the continuation of divine guidance through the Imams.”

The author said that writing the book was not only an intellectual exercise but also a spiritual journey. “Writing about Lady Fatima requires purity of heart,” he reflected. “At many moments, I felt that what was being written was not mine alone — it was as if I was being guided.”
