Registration of Al-Azhar Foreign Students for Port Said Quran Contest Begins

IQNA – Registration of Al-Azhar University’s foreign students for the 9th Port Said International Quran Competition has gotten under way.

The Center for the Development of Education for Foreign and Non-Egyptian Students of Al-Azhar announced the start of the registration, Newsroom reported.

The competition which will be held in honor of late Egyptian qari Sheikh Mahmoud Ali Al-Banna.

It will be organized in three categories, including memorization of the entire Quran (for girls and boys) along with recitations (Hafs from Asim, Qalun and Warsh from Nafi, or the ten Qira’at (the ten styles of recitation of the Quran)), good recitation with Tajweed (for boys), and Ibtihal and religious hymns (for girls and boys).

Participants in this competition must not be under the age of 16 or more than 30 years old, cannot participate in more than one field, and registrants must not have obtained a rank in the requested field in previous rounds of this contest.

Local preliminary stages for foreign and non-Egyptian students of Al-Azhar will begin at the center so that those who are eligible for the preliminary competitions in Port Said province are selected and the final winners are prepared to participate in the international edition of the competition.

The ninth edition of the Port Said International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition will be held from January 30 to February 2, 2026.

Dozens of Quran activists from Egypt, Arab and non-Arab countries will participate in it.
