Grand Mufti Highlights Brotherly Ties between Shias, Sunnis in Lebanon

IQNA – Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul Latif Darian described relations between Sunni and Shia Muslims in the country as brotherly.

Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul Latif Darian and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met in Beirut on Friday, January 9, 2026.

 

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beirut on Friday, Sheikh Darian said the common concern of all Lebanese people, including Muslims in safeguarding national interests.

In order to confront threats posed against Lebanon, all Lebanese people should stand united, he stated.

Araghchi, for his part, said the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches importance to all Lebanese religious communities.  

He described unity among all Lebanese as necessary for protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, especially given the aggressive polices of the Zionist regime against Lebanon.

The Iranian top diplomat emphasized the importance of efforts for proximity of Islamic schools of thought and expressed Iran’s readiness to enhance cooperation with all Muslim countries on this path.

He also said the Islamic Republic is determined to expand its relations with Lebanon in all areas of mutual interest.

Araghchi traveled to Beirut on Thursday to hold talks with senior Lebanese officials on bilateral ties and regional developments.
