Quran Activists Honored at World Quran Day Conference in Qom

IQNA – The second World Quran Day Conference was held in the holy city of Qom, Iran, on Sunday.

A number of Quran memorizers and reciters and Quranic scholars from Iran and Iraq took part in the gathering, organized by the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in cooperation with the Holy Quran International Center and Al-Dalil Institute.

Named after legendary Egyptian Quran reciter late Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, it began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by prominent Iranian qari Karim Mansouri.

It included playing a video clip featuring Abdul Basit’s life and Quranic achievements.

Then there were speeches by Sayid Mahdi Bahrololoum and Hassan al-Mansouri, officials with the Astan of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine.

Hojat-ol-Islam Rezaei Esfehani, a Quranic scholar and Mufasir (interpreter) also addressed the gathering, elaborating on strategies to promote the Holy Quran in the world through research, education and propagation activities.

These activities include developing Quran recitation and memorization programs, efforts to promote Quranic concepts, Quran translation and Quran interpretation, spreading Quranic centers, holding international Quran competitions and supporting Quranic arts, networks, books and news agencies.

He said the path to liberation from new colonialism is through change and evolution in human sciences and the best way for that is via the Holy Quran.

Later during the conference, Hojat-ol-Islam Rezaei Esfehani as well as Quran activists Sayid Mohammad Bahrololoum and Riyadh al-Hakim were honored.

The World Quran Day is observed every year on the 27th of the lunar Hijri month of Rajab (January 17 this year), which marks the anniversary of Eid al-Mab’ath, the day the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Muhammad (PBUH) and he was appointed as the last messenger of God.
