IQNA – The government of Argentina has put a hold on plans to relocate its embassy in occupied Palestine.

Buenos Aires was going to relocate the embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city of Al-Quds but now seems to have changed its mind, Al-Alam reported.

The reason behind it is the escalation of tensions and diplomatic disputes between Argentina and the Zionist regime.

The disputes have arisen following the Israeli regime’s participation in oil and gas explorations in the Malvinas Islands.

An Israeli company recently announced its plans to start oil and gas explorations in the region in 2028.

Argentina has condemned the decision, considering it a violation of its sovereignty.

The Malvinas Islands, known in the UK as the Falkland Islands are self-governing, but the UK is responsible for their defense and foreign affairs. The territorial dispute with the UK saw the 74-day Falklands War in 1982, when Argentina invaded and briefly occupied the islands located in the south of the Atlantic Ocean. Buenos Aires says it inherited the Falkland Islands, around 483km off its east coast, after the former colony won independence from Spain in the 19th century, while London claims it has continuously administered the territory since 1833.
