
Muslim residents of Athens gathered on Sunday, April 19, at the Votanikos Mosque for the special religious service commemorating Ayatollah Khamenei.
The event, which included prayers, was organized by the Shia Muslim Community of Greece.
The Votanikos Mosque, inaugurated in 2020, is Athens’ first official mosque since the Greek Revolution. For decades before its opening, Athens was the only European capital without a formal mosque, forcing the Muslim community to use unofficial prayer spaces.
