The meeting is part of Thailand’s eagerness to benefit from advanced educational experiences in the East Asian region, particularly Malaysia’s experience, which has achieved remarkable success in developing Quranic education institutions, in a way that helps enhance the quality of education and create a more integrated and sustainable model.
Strengthening educational cooperation between Thailand and Malaysia
In a meeting attended by a number of leaders of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, Sheikh Arun Bunchom, the Sheikh-ul-Islam of Thailand, welcomed a delegation from the Islamic Foundation of Kelantan’s Quran Memorization Institute, headed by Hashim Bin Arefin, indicating the institutional nature of the cooperation between the two sides.
The discussions focused on developing curricula for teaching the Holy Quran, strengthening academic partnerships, and establishing practical mechanisms for exchanging experiences in order to achieve tangible and sustainable results.
Transferring Malaysian expertise to develop curricula
The Malaysian side presented its experiences in managing Quranic education institutions, particularly in the areas of curriculum organization, memorization assessment systems, and innovative teaching methods, as the Kelantan Islamic Foundation is one of the leading models in this field in Southeast Asia.
Thailand seeks to apply these experiences in developing its educational curricula to achieve a balance between Quranic memorization and concepts, and to enhance the effectiveness of teachers and their ability to deliver more effective and relevant education.
The Sheikh-ul-Islam of Thailand emphasized that Quranic education should go beyond mere memorization to include understanding concepts and enable learners to apply what they have learned in their daily lives.
This trend reflects a shift in the philosophy of Islamic education towards an integrated cognitive and behavioral awareness that combines authenticity and modernity.
Towards a regional center for Islamic education
This collaboration represents a practical step within a broader vision through which Thailand seeks to establish itself as a regional center for Islamic education in Southeast Asia, through curriculum development, personnel training, and leveraging successful experiences in the region.
